We will meet in the Mountain View parking lot at 7:45 AM and carpool to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum located just south of US Highway 60 about 4 miles west of Superior, AZ., a 1 ¼ hour drive from Saddlebrooke. Founded in the early 1920s by mining magnate William Boyce Thompson, the Arboretum was born out of a deep appreciation and wonder of plant life. Today, it is Arizona’s oldest and largest botanical garden, spanning over 320 acres of breathtaking landscapes.

Visitors can explore the themed gardens, each offering a unique glimpse into different ecological niches. With many plants in full bloom in late March the opportunities for photography will be superb. The Arboretum is also a sanctuary for wildlife, with frequent sightings of birds, butterflies, and other desert dwellers.

The admission price to enter the Arboretum, which is no longer an Arizona State Park, is $24.95.  We plan to spend about 2 ½ hours at the Arboretum and then move to a restaurant in Superior for a group lunch. Further details concerning the field trip will be sent to those who register a few days prior to the trip.
